One of the oldest painting forms is Madhubani or Mithila paintings was developed long back during King Janak's reign in the Ramanaya time. The name itself depicts from where it belongs that is Mithila region or Madhubani village of Bihar. These paintings using natural colors are very beautifully and traditionally done on environmentally hand made paper mostly depict Hindu deities like Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Durga. While nature as the moon, the sun and even plants like tulsi together with Hindu devotional events formed the earliest concepts of this traditional art. Now all Madhubani paintings in various designs are available for home decor.
